$10 million funding boost to support Australian volunteers

Dept of Social Services

The Albanese Labor Government is investing in the future of volunteers by providing $10 million in funding being delivered through the 2023-24 Volunteer Grants program.

Community organisations across Australia will share in the funding and will receive grants of between $1000 and $5000 to help their volunteers.

The funding may be used to support volunteers through buying equipment for volunteers’ use or reimbursing volunteers’ fuel, transport or training costs.

Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth said more than six million people volunteer each year across Australia, freely giving their time and skills to help others and it is important they are supported to make this contribution.

“We know that volunteers provide essential services in many different ways, whether it is helping out in times of disaster or crisis, supporting the more vulnerable people in our community, or assisting local sporting teams and community events,” Minister Rishworth said.

“Through these grants, community organisations can better support the efforts of volunteers and the wider volunteering sector.”

“Across Australia, this funding will assist volunteers in doing their work, improve inclusion for volunteers with different needs, and encourage more people to participate in volunteering.”

“These locally awarded grants help to ensure communities are at the centre of volunteering, and help us to maintain a resilient volunteering sector.”
