Major construction works are set to begin on the Warragul Leisure Centre Expansion project with Council awarding the main contract to Kubale Construction, to the value of $11,254,950.
Having secured the early works contract at the start of the year, locally based Kubale Construction have been on site undertaking preparatory works for the project including earthworks, installation of new storm water pipework, sewer diversion works, and the demolition and removal of redundant infrastructure.
Once complete, the existing two-court stadium space will be transformed into a multi-use sports facility, including two new indoor courts, improved pedestrian links, new café and kitchen facilities, and car parking spaces.
With support from the Victorian Government’s Changing Places program, Council was successful in obtaining a $110,000 grant to provide Baw Baw Shire’s first Changing Places accessible change room with adult change tables and hoists as part of the expansion project.
This project is funded by a $6 million contribution from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program and the balance contribution from Baw Baw Shire Council.
With the main contract now awarded and the finalisation of the contract documents underway, works can progress to source necessary labour, plant, equipment, expertise and materials required for the multi-million-dollar expansion project with construction timelines to be identified.
