$119,998.90 for 27 local organisations

Wingecarribee Shire

A wide range of local, community-based projects will benefit from almost $120,000 in funding from the Wingecarribee Community Assistance Scheme. Wingecarribee Shire Council have provided 27 local organisations across the shire with donations and grants ranging from $600 to $7,000 under the scheme.

The aim is to come alongside local communities and help them to build capacity by supporting initiatives that encourage participation and promote working together to maintain the community and its assets.

These funds help to establish, improve or enhance resources, services and facilities and access for all residents of the Wingecarribee Shire, by providing grants for capital works, equipment, programs, activities and events or facilities.

“It’s wonderful to see local communities coming together around so many great initiatives,” says Wingecarribee Shire Council Place Liaison Officer Corinne Buxton. “We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact the investment in these projects will have for people across our shire.”

Donations of $600 were received by The Disability Trust, Mittagong, the Medway Community Association, Wombat Care Bundanoon, Adventurous Women Who Walk, Southern Highlands Carriage Club, Wollondilly Southern Highlands Physie Club, Moss Vale Dragonflies Netball Club, Yerrinbool-Bargo Soccer club and the Bowral Butterflies Netball Club.

17 community organisations received $7,000 grants, including Koori Kulcha Aboriginal Corporation, Kangaloon Hall Incorporated, The 4K, Penrose Community Association, Red Cross, Wingecarribee Food Service Co-op – Meals on Wheels, Bridges for Learning, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾-Start ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾, Highlands Miniature Railway and the Connect Christian Church.

The $119,998.90 was just $1.10 short of the $120,000 that Council had budgeted for the scheme. There were 20 unsuccessful applications and the organisations who submitted them have been advised.

Successful applicants will be invited to a formal cheque presentation to be conducted next month.

The next round of grant applications will open in March.
