While I have written many columns for The Maryborough District Advertiser, this is my first as the newly elected Mayor of the Central Goldfields Shire. A role I am honoured and excited to be undertaking.

Over the next 12 months I look forward to continuing to work hard on behalf of our community and continuing our advocacy for our Shire, particularly focusing on the delivery of Council’s Priority Projects, the restoration of the Maryborough Town Hall, the restoration and revitalisation of the Bristol Hill memorial tower and precinct to be a tourist attraction to be proud of.

As the end of the year approaches, so too does the fire season, with the Fire Danger Period for the Shire commencing on 19 December, 2022. To help residents prepare, Council is offering free green waste disposal from now to Sunday 18 December.

You can drop off your waste at one of our Transfer Stations, including in Carisbrook, Talbot and Dunolly.

In some other Maryborough news, Council is planning for the construction of a series of new footpaths across the Shire, as well as the renewal of a number of footpaths, including 330 metres in Primrose Street and Porter Avenue, Maryborough.

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas in the Central Goldfields, including in Maryborough, with the installation of our wonderful decorations which add a touch of festive cheer to our streets.

With Christmas shopping now on everyone’s mind it’s important to remember to look local and support our retail and hospitality businesses when doing your shopping this year.

Wishing everyone a happy and safe festive season and a wonderful New Year.
