Construction of the Launceston General Hospital’s new $15 million helipad has reached an important milestone with the installation of a new tower crane as part of the next stage of construction.
Minister for Health, Guy Barnett said the Rockliff Liberal Government is doing what matters for Tasmanians by investing in the health infrastructure needed to support our healthcare workforce and deliver better care for patients.
“The tower crane will support work at the top of the hospital’s Cleveland Street Car Park where the helipad is being built and will be used to lift the nine prefabricated helipad sections into place,” Minister Barnett said.
“The new helipad will feature state-of-the-art technology to maximise safety and support incident response.
“The project includes an aerobridge connection to an elevated operations room with a new patient lift and a fully enclosed walkway for direct transfer of patients to the Emergency Department, ICU and theatres.
“The new helipad would ensure patients who require aero-medical transportation to and from the LGH will get to the right clinical area for their needs safely and efficiently.
“Construction of the new LGH helipad is progressing well, with installation of the tower crane marking an important milestone in the project.
“The new helipad is a critical resource that will support emergency medical care, allowing the transport of patients in need of urgent intervention by helicopter directly to and from the LGH.”
Earlier this month, the Rockliff Liberal Government announced design works had started on a new multistorey car park that will deliver about 500 spaces as part of Stage 2 of the LGH Precinct Masterplan.
Minister Barnett said the Government was delivering on its long-term plan to upgrade the LGH and provide Tasmanians with the health facilities they need and deserve.
