A man is due to appear in court today charged after police seized more than 1.5kg of cocaine and $40,000 cash from a home unit in Waterloo.
Officers attached to the Surry Hills High Visibility Police Team (HVPT) were called to Wentworth Avenue, Surry Hills, about 8pm Saturday (7 November 2020), responding to reports an SUV was stopped in the middle of the road with the driver apparently asleep.
Police removed the man from the SUV before the vehicle was searched with cocaine, $1000 cash and three mobile phones were seized.
The 37-year-old man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with supply a prohibited drug; he was granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on 26 November 2020.
Following further inquiries, police executed a search warrant at home in Danks Street, Waterloo, about 2.30pm yesterday (Sunday 8 November 2020), assisted by officers attached to Strike Force Odin.
More than 1.5kg of cocaine, $43,850 cash, drug scales, a money-counting machine and 44 rounds of 22. calibre rifle ammunition were seized during the search, as well as Xanax tablets, steroids and a set of knuckle dusters. The cocaine has an estimated potential street value of $375,000.
The 37-year-old man was arrested and taken back to Surry Hills Police Station where he has now been charged with an additional six offences
• Supply prohibited drug >large commercial quantity
• Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
• Possess ammunition without permit
• Possess prohibited weapon, and
• Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.
The man, from Waterloo, has been refused bail to appear in Central Local Court today (Monday 9 November 2020).
