16 Days of Activism Calendar of Events launched

Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence Committee has released a calendar of events and activities for the community to get involved in the 16 Days of Activism from November 25 through to December 10.

The 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign to eliminate gender-based violence.

The calendar of events provides opportunities for the community to get involved in a range of local initiatives and show their support. Activities include a floral and art display in the Conservatory Gardens, a local virtual walk and a webinar with Nyadol Nyuon. It also showcases local community groups and other events that are supporting the initiative and more.

Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence Committee Chair Margaret Singe said the committee has been operating since 2008 and has worked across a number of schools, sporting clubs and community groups to create local activities that the whole community can get involved in.

“The 16 Days of Activism provides an opportunity for community to come together virtually, hear from local agencies and demonstrate their support,” Ms Singe said.

“The Committee is always seeking new ways to raise awareness around family violence and to support moves towards gender equity. This year builds on the success of the 2020 virtual campaign providing a meaningful way for community to get involved safely.

“We want to see our community participating and encourage them to share images of themselves getting involved to the Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence Facebook page. It could be an image of you wearing orange, taking one of the orange flowers that the Yarn Bombers have created or dropping a pin on the virtual walk page.

Greater Bendigo Against Family Violence committee aligns with the Victoria Against Violence Program.
