$1.7m for economy-boosting projects across Mallee

  • Five locally-chosen projects in Victoria’s Mallee approved for $1.74 million
  • Targets grass-roots projects in communities hardest hit by water recovery
  • Projects include an early learning centre and a dried fruit demonstration
  • Five locally-chosen projects in the Mallee region will receive a total investment of $1.74 million from the Federal Coalition Government.

Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud said the money would come from the Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program.

“These projects have been put forward by locals who know what’s needed for their towns,” Minister Littleproud said.

    “The projects include:

    • “$500,000 for Chaffey Aged Care in Merbein to build a 100-place early learning centre for kids aged 0-6
    • “$396,520 for Dried Fruits Australia in Colignan, Merbein and Red Cliffs to conduct demonstrations of crop production improvements
    • “$245,760 for Red Cliffs Golf Club to expand tourism and employment by setting up an RV park nearby so tourists stay in our towns longer
    • “$203,680 for Red Cliffs Community Aged Care to build practice rooms for allied health professionals and improve access to their services
    • “$300,000 for Sunraysia Rural Counselling Service to provide free business advice in Colignan, Merbein and Red Cliffs.”

“All of these are great local projects,” Minister Littleproud said.

“I’m excited to contribute to an early learning centre – this will bring Mildura benefits for decades to come.

“The business advice project will deliver benefits, especially during drought. The Dried Fruit demonstrations can help keep our farmers ahead of the game.

“Aged care is a huge issue in our regional communities and I can see why the region put the project building more practice rooms forward. As we know, tourism is important to the region and good golf courses bring tourists.

“Mallee has done a great job putting projects forward and I look forward to seeing the jobs and benefits which come from these projects.”
