$20 million healthcare boost for vital East Metropolitan projects

  • $20 million funding boost for key health projects in the east metropolitan region
  • Additional $17 million for construction of the new Surgicentre at Bentley
  • $3 million for master planning of Midland Health Campus site
  • Cook Government continues to invest in key projects for this growing community

The Cook Government continues to invest in key healthcare projects for Western Australia’s growing eastern metropolitan region, committing $20 million in the 2024-25 State Budget for important infrastructure upgrades and planning.

An additional $17 million will be invested to deliver the new Bentley Health Campus Surgicentre, on top of the $150 million already jointly committed by the State and Commonwealth Governments.

The Surgicentre will enable a streamlined and focused separation of elective and emergency surgery to reduce wait times for patients, and includes six new operating theatres, a 24-bed surgical ward, two new procedure rooms and a new central sterilisation services department.

The Cook Government is also investing in the future of the St John of God (SJOG) Midland Health Campus, allocating $3 million in the 2024-25 State Budget for master planning for this important facility.

This funding will facilitate work to future-proof the campus and ensure it continues to meet the needs of the community into the future.

The Cook Government last year committed $81.1 million to expand public service at SJOG Midland through the purchase of 60 beds and three operating rooms in 2026-27.

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“WA’s eastern corridor continues to grow and we are investing in key health projects to ensure services continue to meet the needs of the community.

“The new Surgicentre at Bentley will be a turning point for the provision of elective surgery in the catchment and reduce waiting times for patients, while our investment in Midland Health Campus will future-proof this vital facility.”

As stated by Victoria Park MLA Hannah Beazley:

“The $167 million Bentley Health Campus Surgicentre will significantly change the delivery of elective surgeries in the eastern suburbs, streamlining services away from the Emergency Department.

“This important project includes six new operating theatres and a 24-bed surgical ward and will reduce waiting times for patients needing elective surgery.”

As stated by Belmont MLA Cassie Rowe:

“The Cook Government’s $3 million in master planning for the Midland Health Campus comes on top of our earlier commitment of $81.1 million to expand public services by 60 beds and three operating rooms in 2026-27.

“We are serious about boosting healthcare options for patients in our eastern suburbs, which is why we are expanding public services in Midland and delivering the new Surgicentre at Bentley.”
