2000 more households stand to benefit from extending bin collections

Wingecarribee Shire

WSC waste

Community focus groups will inform decisions around expanding waste collection services across our shire, to include an extra 2,000 homes in outlying villages. Valued input from residents is sought by Wingecarribee Shire Council in preparation for the 2024 waste collection tender process.

Current contractor JR Richards has been emptying bins for more than 20,000 local homes and businesses since 2014. That contract expires in June 2024.

A revised contract will be the subject of community surveys and focus groups conducted over the next two weeks in Renwick, Mos Vale, Penrose and online. Information and feedback gathered will be considered, along with the outcomes of similar surveys conducted over the past five years.

Under the General Conditions of Contract, council can extend the Collection Area, including to rural areas within the LGA, for which the contractor will be paid for the additional services and make alterations to the Collection Zones. If such a change to the Collection Zones directly increases the cost of providing the service for the Contractor, the Contractor will be reimbursed for the additional costs.

Wingecarribee is one of four councils, along with Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly, in the Project 24 procurement process, which aims to establish a long-term regional processing/disposal contractual arrangement for household waste and recycling.

Community focus groups will be conducted at the following locations:

  • 27 February – Renwick Community Centre
  • 28 February – Civic Centre Theaterette, Moss Vale
  • 1 March – Penrose Community Hall
  • 2 March – Online (TBC)
