Due to current COVID-19 restrictions Council has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Christmas Carols in Hazelwood Park, scheduled for Sunday 6 December.
Why was this decision made?
The decision to cancel is based on current COVID-19 restrictions around public gatherings, social distancing, density requirements, contact tracing and further directions that limit unnecessary travel or gatherings.
The Christmas Carols are a much loved yearly event for friends and families from across the City.
Due to its popularity and historically high attendance rates, Council would not be able to ensure that COVID-19 restrictions can be obeyed without a significant change in how the event is managed.
The event would require a location within Hazelwood Park to be temporarily fenced to ensure that density, social distancing and contact tracing requirements can be achieved – all at significant cost to our ratepayers. This would result in a limited number of patrons that could attend the event.
COVID-19 Marshals and extra staff would also be required to be in place to limit numbers, comply with contact tracing requirements and ensure appropriate social distancing at the event.
Hosting this event under current social distancing restrictions can only be achieved with a significant cost burden on our ratepayers.
How else can I be involved?
Council will be erecting their Christmas decorations at the Civic Centre on 3 December, with Mayor Anne Monceaux to switch on the lights.

Tickets are still available for a Christmas sing-a-long at the Regal Theatre with The BordererS on Saturday 12 December from 7pm.
Love Actually will also be screened most days in the lead up to Christmas from Thursday 10 December.
