Every five years, the Government releases an Intergenerational Report which assesses the long term fiscal sustainability of Government policies. Intergenerational Reports have previously been released in 2002, 2007, 2010 and 2015.
Intergenerational Reports provide a basis for considering the Commonwealth’s fiscal outlook over the next 40 years and identifying the implications of demographic, population and workforce participation changes over time.
The next Intergenerational Report will be released in July 2020.
As the purpose of the Intergenerational Report is to supplement the annual Budget papers, the Government intends to release the next report following the 2020-21 Budget, so that it can build upon the 10 year medium-term projections that will be published in the Budget.
The Intergenerational Report will also be informed by the findings of the Retirement Income Review, which is due to report in June 2020.
