41 Suicide Prevention Grants worth a total of $299 693 have been awarded to locally-led activities across the Northern Territory.
The grants, open to individuals, community groups and non-government organisations are valued anywhere between $500 through to $10,000 to assist in awareness raising for suicide and suicide prevention to:
- Build inclusive communities and strengthen community resilience;
- Address stigma and discrimination; and
- Raise awareness of effective suicide-prevention practices.
Grants have been awarded to initiatives in Darwin, Katherine, Central Australia, Tennant Creek, East and West Arnhem and Tiwi Islands with just over 55% of grants focused on youths.
The Suicide Prevention Community Grants offer an opportunity for grass-roots initiatives that support vulnerable Territorians in their times of need and to raise awareness.
This is the third round of grants awarded since the Territory Labor Government launched the NT Suicide Prevention Strategic Framework 2018-23, Implementation Plan and Suicide Prevention Grants.
As noted by Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:
“Never has there been a more important time for helping our fellow Territorians than now.
“Covid-19 has been a very difficult time for many people who are feeling disconnected and anxious and need support.
“These grants will fund a diverse range of activities across the Northern Territory to raise awareness and lead conversations at a grass roots level”.
