2021 Brilliant Women in Digital Health

AusBiotech congratulates Kate Quirke, CEO of Alcidion, who has been awarded a winner of the inaugural 2021 Brilliant Women in Digital Health. Kate Quirke is an AusBiotech member, was an AusMedtech 2021 keynote speaker, and is one of 25 women that have been recognised and celebrated for their outstanding achievements through the Telstra Health initiative.

Kate Quirke has been recognised for her contributions to leading Alcidion through rapid transformation and growth, identifying the significant potential to use smart informatics, artificial intelligence and machine learning to create new solutions for clinical staff to improve the quality of care delivered, and for improving health outcomes using digital health.

Under Kate’s leadership, the number of healthcare organisations assisted by Alcidion has grown across Australia, New Zealand and, increasingly, the UK. As at March 2021, they had 68,000 users and captured more than 1 billion observations at the 50,000 hospital beds.

When asked about her hope for the potential of digital health, Ms Quirke replied, “While digital health can deliver multiple benefits, the timeline for adoption is incredibly lengthy. A positive outcome of the pandemic has been the relatively rapid and agile adoption of digital health solutions to support virtual care and remote patient monitoring.”

“I hope this more dynamic approach will flow through to other areas that can benefit from the adoption of digital health solutions; for all healthcare organisations to be supported by smart technology aligned with their clinical and business requirements and deployed with true interoperability to ensure that patients receive optimal care as clinicians have access to information when and where it is needed.”
