He now serves as a non-executive director on a number of boards including QSuper, Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, CPL and was recently chosen to serve on the board of the new fund to be created through the merger of QSuper and Sunsuper which will be one of the two largest superannuation funds in Australia.

Queensland State Manager, John Devine MAICD, said Mr Cowley has been a prominent member of the Queensland business community and supporter of the AICD for many years.

“The Gold Medal Award recognises the significant contribution of a Queensland director to corporate life in the state and their contribution to the wider community and Bruce is a very worthy recipient.”

Mr Cowley said he was delighted to receive this award from his peers.

“It is a great privilege to serve as a company director. Events in recent years have reminded us of the many people who are dependent on the decisions we make and although we always remain mindful of the interests of our shareholders, we are very conscious that we also have a responsibility to ensure that the people whin our employment are properly looked after, we provide the best service we can to our customers, we care for the environment and we are respectful of the communities in which we operate.”
