This year marks 41 years of the Victorian Seniors Festival and Southern Grampians Shire Council partnering with Senior Citizen Groups around the region to celebrate a month of events for those aged 60 and over during October.
This year’s theme, ‘Learn, Love, Live’, encourages Victorian Seniors to live their best lives by joining in the festival fun with a program specially developed to celebrate being a senior in the Southern Grampians Shire region.
Seniors will have the opportunity to enjoy a host of different experiences including MSO classical music recitals, guest speakers, afternoon teas, information sessions and trivia events; with one headline event in the form of internationally renowned concert pianist Roman Rydnytsky performing a magical repertoire of pieces design to relax and inspire.
Southern Grampians Shire Council CEO Tony Doyle said it was fantastic to see the number of quality events happening throughout October, with community groups having worked together to celebrate the community’s senior residents and their contribution to the Southern Grampians Shire.
“We have a list of events covering a wide range of topics and genres designed to suit all tastes. Whether it’s music, theatre, guest speakers or workshops, the 2023 festival line-up is really designed to give our senior residents the chance to enjoy some really special events that have been created just for them. It is also a great chance to get out and about, and to connect with other seniors in the region,” said Mr Doyle.
“The Hamilton PAC has a stunning line-up of events including internationally acclaimed concert pianist Roman Rydnytsky, with afternoon tea included for $10. A Damian Callinan double feature focussing on post-war Melbourne will also be shown, as well as an evening with the MSO featuring Mendelssohn and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.”
Those interested in attending the events are encouraged to browse the festival program and reserve your booking in advance, as many of the events require booking ahead to guarantee space.
“There are a number of other activities scheduled through our seniors’ groups around the region including a morning tea talk with journalist and author Tony Wright and a trivia afternoon tea at the Hamilton and District Senior Citizens Centre and much more,” said Mr Doyle.

The Senior’s Festival is a special time of celebration for Southern Grampians seniors and is an important opportunity to acknowledge the ongoing valued contribution those over 60 make to our community.
