2023 Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Symposium and Awards

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health

Tasmanian nurses and midwives play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the Tasmanian community.

Today, nurses and midwives from across the public and private sectors will gather together to celebrate and showcase innovation and research at the 2023 Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Symposium.

The annual event is now in its fifth year and provides an opportunity for Tasmanian nurses and midwives to share knowledge, experience, hopes and ideas for the future.

The theme for this year’s event is Vital Signs, Vital Skills, Vital People, encompassing how the nursing and midwifery professions are vital in every sense of the word.

Minister for Health, Guy Barnett, said as the largest health workforce in Tasmania, nurses and midwives were the backbone of our health system.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank all of our dedicated and committed nurses and midwives for the vital role they play across Tasmania’s health services,” Minister Barnett said.

“As the theme of the conference shows, nurses and midwives are vital in every sense of the word.

“We highly value each and every nurse and midwife in Tasmania and recognise how important they are in providing high-quality health care to the community.

“Today’s annual Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Symposium is a great opportunity for nurses and midwives to gather and inspire one another, as they promote research and innovation in the delivery of healthcare in Tasmania.”

Following the Symposium, the outstanding achievements of Tasmania’s nurses and midwives will be recognised at the Tasmanian Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, with awards across five categories.
