Twenty two businesses from across the Corangamite Shire will improve their public appearance thanks to almost $43,000 from Council’s Facade Improvement Program which is now in its eighth year.
At its September meeting Council allocated $42,589 (excl. GST) to the successful businesses.
Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the works would improve the overall presentation of streetscapes in the Shire.
“Council is really proud of this program which supports economic development in our communities,” Cr Gstrein said.
“It plays into two of our Council Plan priorities which are to help business recover from COVID-19 and by making our towns more attractive and accessible.
“Five of the recipients are new businesses, or premises aiming to attract new tenants. This helps overcome the impression of having empty shopfronts in our towns.”
Not all of the program’s $50,000 budget allocation was needed so Council voted to transfer the balance to the Small Business Assistance Program.
Grants are allocated on a $1:$1 allowing $145,000 in works to be completed by businesses following the awarding of these grants.
About $22,000 in fees for 15 planning permits will also be waived to facilitate the improvements.
