Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) welcomed 23 new custodial correctional officers at a ceremony at the QCS Academy in Wacol yesterday.
QCS Commissioner Paul Stewart APM congratulated and welcomed the new officers to the front line of public safety.
“The 23 new officers sworn into their new roles will perform a vital role in keeping the community safe, and I welcome our newest officers,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“Along with their colleagues, they will help transform the lives of those under our supervision, reducing offending in our communities.
“I congratulate our newest officers and thank them for their dedication to keeping the community safe,” Commissioner Stewart said.
The new officers will be deployed at two correctional centres in south east Queensland, including:
- 18 officers to Borallon Training and Correctional Centre; and
- five officers to Southern Queensland Correctional Centre.
One officer from Woodford Correctional Centre was recognised at yesterdays ceremony for 20 years of service, receiving the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and another officer from Borallon Training and Correctional Centre also received a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for 30 years of service.
Commissioner Stewart said the two officers were amongst some of the state’s most experienced.
“These officers have given a life-long commitment to protecting our communities, the rehabilitation of prisoners in our care and security of our centres,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“Our officers deal with the most challenging and complex individuals in society, providing a vital role.
“I commend these officers for their continued efforts, and I thank them for the commitment to public safety.
