Council has welcomed almost $2.3 million from the Federal Government to help improve local roads and community infrastructure.

Fifteen key projects across the Shire will stimulate the local economy while they are being built and benefit the community for years to come.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mason thanked the Government for supporting projects that were important to residents.

“Some of these projects have been on our community’s wish list for a while and it will be great to bring them to fruition,” Mr Mason said.

“I’d like to thank Member for Wannon Dan Tehan and the Federal Government for allocating this funding—$2,285,555 to be precise—from the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program.

“It will allow us to deliver some really significant projects that we would not have been able to complete this financial year otherwise.

“Construction will allow us to support jobs, businesses and the resilience of our towns and residents through the impacts of the COVID-19.

“The finished projects will provide ongoing community benefits for safety, hygiene, accessibility, fitness, social and mental wellbeing.”

Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan congratulated Corangamite Shire on getting the ball rolling and seeking support for their priority road and local community funding initiatives.

Mr Tehan said “these projects will play an important role in improving local infrastructure, creating local jobs and supporting the nation’s post-COVID recovery”.

“Local Governments, like Corangamite Shire are the perfect partners to deliver this economic stimulus as they work directly with their communities to deliver outcomes for their communities”, said Mr Tehan.
