Much excitement lately in Flynn Ward with Dr Anne Webster’s pledge of $3.6 million towards the proposed Dunolly Deledio Park Pavilion if the coalition government was re-elected on the weekend. Sadly this did not happen, to the disappointment of many, myself included.
What it did produce though, is a lot of exposure in the local press as well as on social media. And rightly so, as this hasn’t just come about, it’s the result of many years’ worth of work and planning.
It is still ‘business as usual’ and I sincerely hope that the community will get behind this project with the ‘Paver Fundraiser’. The aim is to raise $100,000 by the end of the year to contribute towards the building. Community members can purchase personalised pavers with names or businesses, which will be permanently installed at the pavilion as a recognition of support.
Since my election as Councillor 18 months ago, I’ve been a persistent advocate and am humbled to be able to help the Dunolly community with this project. Driven by the Deledio Reserve Sports Committee Inc, I have so much admiration and respect for this group of passionate community volunteers who have worked tirelessly for a long time. They are to be commended on their unwavering enthusiasm, dedication and vision for the community.
This new building is not just for sports, far from it. The whole community will benefit and will have access to it. It will be a new, modern and ‘fit for purpose’ facility to be enjoyed and used by everyone.
