  • Multiple regional facilities, including Kalgoorlie International Speedway, to be assessed
  • Goldfields motorsport facilities and needs are set to be assessed as part of a feasibility study as the McGowan Government’s $2 million election commitment to improve motorsport in the region progresses.

The Project Steering Group which will lead the project has been formed and agreed its terms of reference regarding future infrastructure improvements for motorsport facilities in the region. A consultant will be appointed to carry out the feasibility study.

The facilities to be assessed include:

    • Kalgoorlie International Speedway
    • Goldfields Sand Drag Association
    • Goldfields Burnouts
    • Western Desert Racers
    • Goldfields Motorcycle Club.

The consultant is scheduled to be appointed by mid-August, with a report expected to be completed within three months.

This work will underpin the delivery of the State Government’s $2 million commitment to improve local motorsport – to benefit local motorsport participants, clubs and regional tourism.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

“The Project Steering Group will guide the delivery of our $2 million commitment, with the feasibility study to underpin the work towards improving local facilities and infrastructure.

“The work will include a feasibility study and advice on improving infrastructure for participant and spectator safety, service continuity, and the general aesthetics of the facilities.

As stated by Member for Mining and Pastoral Kyle McGinn:

“Motorsport forms an important part of the fabric of the Goldfields community and the State Government’s commitment will support the local industry and our regional venues.

“This project is focused on improving the experience locally for participants and fans, and providing improved local attractions to boost regional tourism.

“This was a key commitment at the 2017 election, and we are not only delivering on the project but ensuring we include a wide range of motorsports groups to help guide the best possible outcome for the local industry.”
