Fifteen local governments across Western Australia will share in close to $3 million to help reduce bushfire risks in their communities this summer.
Under the second round of the 2020-2021 Mitigation Activity Fund (MAF) Grants Program, the 15 local governments will receive funding to conduct mitigation activities in high bushfire-risk areas.
More than 650 bushfire risks will be treated in the Great Southern through to the Goldfields and metropolitan Perth.
The activities include mechanical treatments to reduce fuel levels, the creation of firebreaks and planned burns when appropriate.
Mitigation funding grants are available to local governments that have an endorsed Bushfire Risk Management Plan.

As stated by Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:
“Local governments continue to show commitment and collaboration in working with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to protect their communities and address bushfire risks.
“The MAF grants program is a crucial financial support to empower and enable local governments to reduce the threat of bushfire in their area.
“Since 2017, the State Government has funded 43 local governments to carry out more than 3,000 mitigation activities, a contribution of well over $23 million in creating a safer State.”
