$3.3 million to progress Ayr Industrial Estate

A re-elected Coalition Government will provide $3.3 million to the Burdekin Shire Council to expand the Ayr Industrial Estate by establishing 23 fully serviced allotments on 7.5 hectares of land adjoining the existing estate.

Roads, utilities, fencing and landscaping will establish the precinct to address the shortage of serviced industrial land, providing more opportunities for businesses and more jobs.

Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce said the funding gives existing businesses the opportunity to expand their operations and will allow new businesses to capitalise on new opportunities in agri-business and manufacturing.

“This project will increase economic activity in the region which in turn will create more jobs, giving more local people a future in the area they have grown up in,” Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said.

“The construction phase is expected to provide over 200 jobs, with more than 170 jobs expected following construction.

“The Coalition Government, with Andrew Willcox leading the charge for Dawson, stands behind industries in North Queensland that will help to make Australia as strong as possible as quickly as possible.

“Much of Australia’s wealth comes from our regions, including right here in North Queensland, and the Coalition Government backs industrial growth that will see better living standards and economic growth not only in this area but across Australia.

“Unlike a Labor-Greens alliance that would strangle economic growth in regional Queensland, the Coalition Government is committed to the economic growth and expansion of regional Australia.”

LNP Candidate for Dawson, Andrew Willcox, said the project was a long-held ambition for the region.

“An expansion of the Ayr Industrial Estate is something that Burdekin Shire Council has been keen to achieve for many years, because they have businesses wanting to both set up or expand in the area, and no capacity to accommodate them,” Mr Willcox said.

“This will enrich the Burdekin region and create more diversification and more jobs for years to come.”

Only the Coalition has a plan to deliver a strong economy and stronger future for Queensland.
