The Hodgman Liberal Government is working through our Affordable Housing Strategy to reduce homelessness and provide more homes to Tasmanians in need.
The only way we can address demand issues is by increasing supply.
Today, Housing Choices Tasmania delivered 36 new secure dwellings thanks to almost $9 million in funding through the Tasmanian Government’s Affordable Housing Strategy, with a further 26 under construction.
A total of 62 units will be supplied to Tasmanians in need, such as families escaping family violence, the elderly, and to people living with disability.
Half of these are being delivered through the Regional Supply program with support from Latrobe Council.
All units meet the ‘Silver’ standard of Liveable Housing Design Guidelines, and are eligible for registration under the NDIS ‘improved liveability’ Specialist Disability Accommodation payment.
And, this week we met our Affordable Housing Strategy Stage One target to build 372 new social housing dwellings by June 30, 2019.
We know there is still more to do, and the Hodgman Liberal Government is investing $125 million into Stage Two of our Affordable Housing Strategy, taking our total investment to almost $200 million over eight years – the largest ever investment into affordable housing in Tasmania’s history.
We are delivering on our targets, and we will continue to get on with the job to cater for growing demand.
