The Territory Labor Government has signed off on a $4 million deal to boost the number of affordable rental properties across the Palmerston CBD, Johnston, and Katherine.
A funding agreement with community housing provider, Venture Housing, will deliver 41 homes to the rental market.
Affordable rentals are available to low to moderate income households at below-market rates, ensuring key workers have access to appropriate, cost-effective rental properties.
Grants to Venture Housing will be used towards:
construction of eight dwellings on three blocks of Government-owned land in Katherine ($2 million);purchase of eight dwellings in Johnston ($1 million); andunderwriting the lease of 25 new studio apartments in the Palmerston CBD ($1 million).
The funding for this project comes from a $21 million housing boost announced in December 2021.
The Territory Labor Government is working with several community housing providers across the NT to manage social and affordable housing.
As part of this model, plans are currently afoot to transfer more than 2000 public housing properties to community housing providers as part of its NT Community Housing Growth Strategy 2022-32.
