$43 Million To Support Strategic Research Partnerships

The Australian Research Council (ARC) today announced $43 million in funding for 72 new projects under the ARC’s Linkage Project scheme 2023 Round 2.

ARC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr Richard Johnson, said the ARC Linkage Project scheme plays a significant role in supporting national and international long term strategic research partnerships between researchers and industry.

“By supporting the development of strategic research partnerships, the ARC encourages the transfer of skills and knowledge fundamental to enhancing Australia’s research capability,” Dr Johnson said.

“There are 170 Partner Organisations involved with these new projects and an additional $61 million in cash and in-kind support. This will help researchers, industry, and community organisations drive innovation and deliver research outcomes for the benefit of all Australians.”

The awarded ARC Linkage Projects include:

Professor Karen Healy, The University of Queensland ($699,000): aims to transform Australian child protection systems by building national capabilities in peer-parent and family advocacy (PPFA), progressing the Australian Child Protection Framework’s (2021-2031) vision for all children to grow up safe, connected to and supported by their family, community, and culture.

Professor Hua Wang, Victoria University ($542,152): aims to address the growing carbon footprint of artificial intelligence (AI) and advance knowledge in green AI. Research outcomes will provide insight into sustainable AI technology and promote energy conservation, advancing progress towards Australia’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Professor Rhonda Craven, Australian Catholic University ($1,479,777): aims to improve Indigenous students’ school attendance, engagement, and wellbeing. Research outcomes will contribute to closing the gap and enable Indigenous achievement, increase teacher job satisfaction and retention, and strengthen the socioeconomic fabric of Indigenous communities.
