5 Reasons To Attend MLA Updates 2024

Don’t miss this opportunity to see how your levies are invested, hear the latest marketing insights and explore new technologies at this year’s MLA Updates.

MLA Updates is a day of presentations and demonstrations to showcase our investments in research, development and marketing. The event will be held on Thursday 10 October 2024 at the Claremont Showgrounds, Perth WA.

From genetic gains on-farm to improved meat eating quality for our consumers, we’re demonstrating the benefits that levy payer dollars are creating right through the supply chain. Here are five key reasons for you to register now and secure your free spot at the event.

1. Hear from industry leaders

MLA Managing Director Michael Crowley will kick off the morning with an update on MLA’s key investments and strategic planning process. This will be followed by an address from our keynote speaker Wayne Crofts, CEO of Craig Mostyn Group – one of Australia’s leading diversified food and agribusiness companies servicing customers and suppliers both domestically and overseas.

We’ll also invite our five panellists to the stage to discuss how the industry can create as much value as possible from the Australian paddock to the global plate.

The panel features:

  • Michael Crowley, MLA Managing Director
  • Belinda Lay, Business Partner, Coolindown Farms
  • Ben Dwyer, Chief Operating Officer for Agribusiness & Livestock Procurement, Harvest Road
  • Graeme Howie, Managing Director, Dorper Lamb
  • Annabelle Coppin, Founder, Outback Beef

At the conclusion of the panel discussion, there will be a Q&A with the panellists and Wayne Crofts.

2. See genetic gains and digital agriculture in action

Genetics: This live demo will showcase and explain a range of sheep genetics tools available including Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs), recently released indexes, flock profile tools and emerging genomic products.

Digital agriculture: The digital revolution is happening at an ever-increasing pace, and we’re seeing a plethora of new technologies coming our way. Find out how MLA is bringing forward technologies that are practical, easily accessible and make economic sense for producers to adopt.

3. Gain insights from our key markets

What’s happening with supply forecasts, market access in key markets and demand for beef and lamb both in Australia and overseas? What is MLA doing to capture more value from our red meat products?

All these questions will be answered in a presentation from speakers across MLA’s Marketing & Insights, International Markets and RD&A teams.

4. Find out how we’re capturing value from the whole carcase

Hear from our MLA Corporate Chef and MSA Meat Specialist about menu trends and opportunities to capture further value from the whole carcase.

Learn how the introduction of the MSA Sheepmeat Cuts-based model can benefit the sheepmeat supply chain by providing consistent products to consumers.

5. Catch up and connect

Not only will you have the opportunity to speak face-to-face with MLA and ISC staff throughout the day, but you’ll also have the chance to catch up with friends and colleagues at our sundowner networking event.

Enjoy some cocktail food and beverages and settle in for some downtime. This closing event encourages attendees to network, chat and share ideas with other producers, stakeholders and MLA staff.
