The Australian Government today announced an extra $50 million to improve water quality in the Great Barrier Reef. Bringing the total investment to $200 million for the new Landscape Repair Program.
Poor water quality is one of the largest threats to the Reef.
Run-off from eroded gullies and riverbanks flow into nearby catchments and can be harmful to the Reef ecosystem. This not only impacts species that rely on the Reef but it also compromises the Reef’s resilience to threats like climate change.
This investment program will boost efforts to repair land in priority Reef catchments through a range of projects.
Funding will be delivered through regional delivery partners in the 6 Reef regions. They will develop project proposals, plan and coordinate implementation with regional stakeholders.
