A woman has been hospitalised after being assaulted by two unknown men who broke into her south-west Sydney home this morning.
About 11am (Wednesday 18 December 2019), two men jumped a rear fence of her home on The Esplanade, Guildford, and approached the rear door.
The 78-year-old woman, and sole occupant of the house, noticed the men approaching and attempted to call police.
The men kicked in the door and held the woman to the ground before choking her and stuffing paper towel into her mouth.
The pair ransacked her home before fleeing with her mobile phone. They were last seen jumping the rear fence.
The woman was able to seek assistance and police were called.
The injured woman was taken to Westmead Hospital suffering bruising and lacerations and remains in a stable condition.
Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.
An investigation is underway.
