80-year-old man charged over child sex offences, NSW

An 80-year-old man will reappear in court today charged following an investigation into alleged child sex offences involving four young children in the Illawarra region.

In February 2020, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports four young children had been procured for sexual activity by a man who was known to them.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested an 80-year-old man at a home in the Illawarra region about 10am on Thursday 12 March 2020.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with four counts of procure child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity, intentionally sexually touch child (between 10 and 16 years) and detention application notice after breach.

Police will allege in court that the man procured two boys – aged six and eight – and two girls – aged 10 and 11 – in January 2020.

The man appeared at Nowra Local Court on Thursday 12 March 2020, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear at the same court today (Friday 27 March 2020).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
