The mainline roadway of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension officially opened to traffic on 17 August.
This US$670 million project picks up where the existing 95 Express Lanes ended, seamlessly connecting Washington, D.C. to communities nearly 50 miles (80 kilometres) south in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Travelers can expect to save an estimated 35 minutes on an end-to-end trip that can slow to below 20 mph (32 kph) during morning rush hour.
On 16 August, local, state, and federal officials, industry partners, and local community members joined the Transurban North America team in ceremoniously cutting the ribbon on the 10-mile (16-kilometre) extension.
Our commitment to advancing transportation infrastructure in the Fredericksburg region is also reflected in the more than US$15 million in transit project funding for the Fredericksburg and Stafford area. This funding comes via the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission Commuter Choice Program we contribute US$15 million to each year – totaling more than US$60 million to date – from 395 Express Lanes toll revenue.
These additional travel options, along with the extension of the Express Lanes, are helping get more people where they need to go, safer and more reliably than ever.
More access points along 95 Express Lanes corridor will open in late 2023, connecting the region to retail centers and to employment and military hubs including the Marine Corps Base Quantico.
