Western United is heading down the highway this weekend for the first of its two upcoming Ballarat games as part of the inaugural Festival of Football.
The A-League’s newest side will take on both Adelaide United and Sydney FC at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility in the space of six days.
The two pre-season games will be held on:
- Saturday 21 September at 3pm – Western United v Adelaide United
- Friday 27 September at 3pm – Western United v Sydney FC
Both one-game and two-game passes are still available and can be purchased through
In the lead up to Saturday’s head-to-head, Adelaide United will hold an open training session on Thursday 19 September at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility at 4.15pm. This will be followed by autograph and photo opportunities with the players.
Between December this year and April next year, Western United will also play four championship games at Ballarat’s Mars Stadium during the 2019-20 A-League season. These games are expected to attract more than 5000 fans, hence the move to the larger stadium.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh said Council’s work to attract Western United to the city not only strengthened grassroots-level soccer but also bolstered Ballarat’s position in the state’s major events scene.
“This Saturday is very much part of our early welcome to Western United as Ballarat’s A-League soccer team,” Cr McIntosh said.
Saturday’s game will take place just hours before Ballarat lights up for White Night, a community celebration of art, culture and creativity.
