In the world of Complementary therapies, Shiatsu has not been around that long, a little over 70 years. Its roots however are thousands of years old, based in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu is a Japanese bodywork therapy, using hands, feet, elbows on the body to release tension and bring the body back into balance.
The Australian Shiatsu College is Australia’s pre-eminent Shiatsu college, with a 35 year history. For the last 10 years, the College has called Brunswick home.
On 1st January, the College saw in the new year with a change of owners and directors. Jason Chong and Lawrence Maskill are the new Directors, excited to be taking the helm and steering the College into the new decade.
Jason is a Chinese Medicine practitioner and Shiatsu therapist who has taught at the College for the past five years. He is passionate about oriental medicine and teaching, and combines both loves in his new role as Director at the College.
Lawrence is a Shiatsu therapist and animal acupressure practitioner/instructor, with 20 years’ experience in tertiary education. Her love of oriental medicine and strong belief in adult education is a great fit for her new career as College Director.
Both Jason and Lawrence are committed to ensuring the Australian Shiatsu College’s presence in the Brunswick benefits not just students, but also the local community itself.
“We are really looking forward to building on the strong connections with the community living around the college and local health care providers. Through our student and practitioner clinics, short course and wellness classes we aim to build health in the community of Brunswick and beyond.” Jason said.
“We are really looking forward to building on the strong connections with the community living around the college and local health care providers. Through our student and practitioner clinics, short course and wellness classes we aim to build health in the community of Brunswick and beyond. Our core focus will be to deliver the nationally accredited Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Medicine to the same high standard that the College is known for. Over time we hope to develop and broaden our Oriental Medicine offerings, keeping it open and accessible for all. ” said Lawrence.
Both Jason and Lawrence see this as a perfect time to be stepping into their new roles and for the promotion of Shiatsu across the wider community, as a supportive therapeutic modality.
