A new community hub will soon be developed in Yarrabilba through a collaborative partnership.
The hub, located between two secondary schools, will be delivered by Logan City Council with a range of project partners.
It will deliver services to help connect the community and create education, training and employment pathways as the community grows.
Logan City Council Mayor Darren Power said the hub would offer an important place for the community to foster connections and gain easy access to valuable support services.
“Logan City Council is proud to lead the delivery of this community facility in collaboration with the Queensland Government, Brisbane Catholic Education and developer Lendlease,” Cr Power said.
“This partnership is a new approach for Council and one that will provide valuable learnings as a model for developing future community infrastructure projects.”
City Lifestyle Committee Chairperson and local Councillor Laurie Koranski said it was exciting to see essential infrastructure being delivered to emerging communities.
“Yarrabilba’s population is expected to grow to more than 50,000 people over the next 25 years and this new facility – the first of its kind, will provide our community with exciting new opportunities for learning and earning,” Cr Koranski said.
“Strategically located between Yarrabilba State Secondary College and San Damiano College this state-of-the-art facility will literally be a hub for our schools and community to meet.
“There will also be a dedicated space for youth to connect and participate in programs.”
Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said new infrastructure will play a key role in Queensland’s COVID economic fightback.
“As we battle harsh global economic conditions investing in projects like this becomes vital, from an employment standpoint and for keeping communities connected,” Mr Dick said.
“Supporting building and construction jobs is at the core of the Unite and Recover economic strategy our government is currently delivering, benefitting workers and their families in the short-term and generating significant community benefits in the long-term.”
Council is now seeking input from the local community and service providers about their views on the design of Yarrabilba’s new hub and the services it could provide.
Construction is expected to start in early next year.
The community will also have the opportunity to decide on a name of the hub closer to its opening, which is expected early-2022.
