A Strong Plan For Women In Agriculture

Liberal Tasmania
  • Jo Palmer Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Minister for Community Services and Development, Minister for Disability Services, Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence, Liberal Member for Rosevears
  • The Liberals’ 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future supports women in agriculture and recognises the important role our farming families play in Tasmania.

A re-elected majority Liberal Government will provide Tasmanian Women in Agriculture (TWiA) with $135,000 over the next three years to continue to pursue women’s workforce development in the agricultural sector.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, and Minister for Women, Jo Palmer, said Tasmanian Women in Agriculture (TWiA) plays a vital role in connecting, celebrating and empowering rural, regional, and remote women involved in primary production, professions, business, and academia.

“We know that workforce shortages have been a challenge for the Tasmanian agriculture sector in recent times,” Minister Palmer said.

“Working with industry to address this issue is a key part of the Liberal’s 2030 Strong Plan for Agriculture and will support our ambitious goal to grow the farmgate value to $10 billion by 2050.

“Tas Women in Agriculture will work for the adoption of policies that address workforce shortages and highlight female career opportunities in the Tasmanian agricultural sector.

“A key component of their work is promoting economic development opportunities by improving gender equity, upskilling and personal development courses and empowering women in agricultural pathways.”

Minister Palmer said the Tasmanian Liberals know the importance of supporting our rural families.

A re-elected majority Liberal Government will also support growing rural and regional enterprise by providing a further $295,000 to Rural Business Tasmania over three years.

“This will support a Mentoring Program that passes on the skill sets of our current industry leaders to the future leaders of the agricultural sector.

“We will also support the Rural Financial Counselling Service and Forum of Rural Stakeholders to assist Tasmanian agricultural families that might be struggling or need help in future business planning.”

Tasmania’s agricultural sector is the backbone of our economy and our way of life, and the Liberals will always back it.

Only a re-elected majority Liberal Government has a 2030 Strong Plan for the future of women in agriculture and supporting our rural families.
