ACTCOSS says election result an opportunity for a fairer Canberra

The ACT Council of Social Service (ACTCOSS) said today that the ACT election campaign had demonstrated a desire by a growing number of Canberrans for a more equitable society in the ACT.

ACTCOSS CEO Dr Emma Campbell said: “We were pleased to see that all the major parties attempted to address issues such as Canberra’s housing crisis, poverty and inequality, and cost of living for people on low incomes.

“The party that is pivotal to shaping the legislative agenda of the incoming government, the ACT Greens, has today called for a ‘policy reset’ in any deal to continue governing with the ACT Labor Party.

“This policy reset should result in more emphasis on delivering social housing, investing in community services, achieving a just transition to net zero emissions and securing better outcomes for people on low incomes or who face disadvantage in the ACT.

“We look forward to strongly pursuing these issues with the incoming Government to ensure that Canberra is a just and fair community that includes everyone in its recovery from COVID-19,” Dr Campbell said.

ACTCOSS encourages incoming MLAs to read our and to inform their work.

ACTCOSS advocates for social justice in the ACT and represents not-for-profit community organisations.
