Additional boost for Government Regional Officer Housing

  • McGowan Government’s ongoing investment in Government Regional Officer Housing bolstered with additional $61.6 million funded in 2023-24 State Budget
  • Total funding commitment of $181.8 million to new GROH housing and refurbishment

The McGowan Government has increased its investment in Government Regional Officer Housing, with a $61.6 million boost for government worker housing funded in the 2023-24 State Budget.

The Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) program provides housing for government workers such as teachers and police in regional areas to ensure vital services can be delivered.

The latest funding boost enables hundreds of current GROH homes to be prioritised for refurbishment and maintenance, while further building or adding of GROH properties takes place throughout the State.

A key focus of the 2023-24 State Budget is providing cost-of-living support. In line with this, the McGowan Government will also freeze all rents for GROH tenants for the 2023-24 financial year.

As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:

“The McGowan Government continues to invest in GROH housing as it’s essential that State Government workers, including teachers and police officers, have access to housing where they are delivering critical services across regional Western Australia.

“We’re spending more than $180 million in the 2023-24 Budget on expanding GROH housing across our regions.

“This investment will also ensure refurbishment and maintenance programs continue to keep our inherited ageing stock in the system.

“The Government is acutely aware of the housing challenges we face and that is why we are significantly boosting housing supply measures through our continued direct investment in GROH housing.”
