Additional charges have been laid against a truck driver, following a serious crash in the state’s south, earlier this year.
Emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving a truck towing a trailer and a utility along the Riverina Highway, Splitters Creek, about 8km west of Albury, shortly before 7am on (Monday 24 June 2024).
The 64-year-old male utility driver was trapped in the vehicle until released by emergency services personal.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to Albury Hospital in a critical condition, before being transferred to Royal Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.
The 51-year-old male truck driver suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing before being conveyed to Albury Police Station.
Officers from the Murry River Police District established a crime scene that was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Police will allege that the truck was towing a Telehandler, when the trailer rolled causing the load to come lose from the trailer and collide with the utility.
The truck driver was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm- drive manner danger, negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm) and tow vehicle when unsafe.
Following inquiries, on Saturday 9 November 2024, police laid additional charges – drive vehicle with unsecured load, use heavy vehicle with defective brakes and use heavy vehicle not registered configuration.
The man remains on conditional bail and is due to appear in Albury Local Court on Wednesday 13 November 2024
