Bayside dog owners can look forward to four new off leash dog exercise areas in the new year following a decision at the Extraordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday 6 December 2023.
Council received feedback from more than 180 residents when the following off leash areas went on public exhibition in August this year:
- Ward 1 – Rhodes Street Reserve East, Hillsdale
- Ward 2 – Hughes Avenue Reserve, Mascot
- Ward 3 – Ron Gosling Reserve, Bardwell Park
- Ward 4 – Flynns Reserve, Bexley
Council approved a recommendation at last night’s Extraordinary Council Meeting that will see the creation of three additional off leash dog areas while a fourth, more suitable for smaller dogs, will be trialled for 12 months.
The off leash dog exercise areas are set to be established at:
- Rhodes Street Reserve East, Hillsdale
- Ron Gosling Reserve, Bardwell Park
- Flynns Reserve, Bexley
The fourth location at Hughes Avenue Reserve, Mascot will be trialled for 12 months with a usage and activity report presented to Council at the end of the trial.
Council estimates it will cost $45,000 to establish the four dog parks with an ongoing operational cost of $59,000 per year.
The project is due to commence early in the new year.
The full report, together with establishment and ongoing maintenance costs, can be found on Council’s website.
