ADVISORY: One child critical and another stable after being hit by 4WD – Central Coast

Police will address the media after two children have been taken to hospital after being hit by a 4WD on the Central Coast overnight.

Just after 7pm (Friday 17 February 2023), emergency services were called to the intersection of Sydney Avenue and Ocean Beach Road, Umina Beach, following reports a 4WD and a pushbike had collided.

A 12-year-old boy – who was being carried on the handlebars – sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

The rider – an 11-year-old boy – sustained leg injuries and is in a stable condition in Gosford Hospital. Neither child was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the 4WD – a 59-year-old woman – was not injured and was taken to Gosford Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District established a crime scene and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.
