January was a busy month for East Gippsland Shire Council, with a lot of visitors enjoying our region and Council holding some special community events.
Council also chalked up its first advocacy effort for 2024.
Councillors and senior shire staff were in Lakes Entrance in late January for the official opening of Lakes Entrance Fishermen Limited’s new Off the Wharf café on Bullock Island.
While opening the new facility, Minister for Skills and TAFE and Regional Development the Hon Gayle Tierney also acknowledged the completion of Council’s Old Slipway project in the centre of town, the redevelopment of Bullock Island and new moorings in Metung established by Riviera Nautic.
Following the official opening, Council representatives met with Minister Tierney to discuss a number of priority projects for the region, including:
- Timber Transitions
- training and growth needs
- renewable energy and other growth sector opportunities; and
- investment opportunities in both a cultural arts precinct, and redevelopment of the Paynesville foreshore.
Advocating for East Gippsland’s needs is a key role of Council.
