Advocacy push paying off for Bayside

Council’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the Bayside community are paying dividends during the federal election campaign.

With funding commitments announced by the two major parties, Bayside is set to benefit regardless of the outcome of the election on 18 May.

Bayside Mayor Cr Michael Heffernan welcomed the funding announcements made ahead of the election.

“It is very pleasing that our advocacy efforts are paying off for our community with more than $21.8 million pledged for various important projects within the municipality.

“We look forward to working with whoever forms government to deliver these vital infrastructure for our community following the election on 18 May”, Cr Heffernan said.

The recent announcement by the Coalition Government of $10 million for commuter parking near Sandringham, Brighton Beach and North Brighton stations follows a longstanding Council campaign for improved parking at Bayside railway stations. This announcement complements the $4 million for parking at Hampton station announced earlier this year. The Coalition has also now pledged $100,000 for two significant projects put forward by Council to care for our foreshores at Sandringham and Black Rock.

Council’s campaign for funding for a new Bayside Netball Centre in Sandringham is also bearing fruit with the announcement of $4.7million in funding by the Prime Minister in February.

The redevelopment of Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve was promised a $3 million funding boost by the Australian Labor Party if it wins.

Labor has also committed to ongoing kindergarten funding for four-year-olds, with the Coalition Government committing to funding during 2019-20.
