A new allied health centre in Adelaide’s south is combining cutting-edge research and technology to offer the South Australian community affordable optometry, physiotherapy, hearing and speech pathology services in an expansion of Flinders vision at Flinders University’s Sturt campus.
Opening its doors in May 2019, will also train the next generation of health experts by offering placements for students studying relevant courses in the College of Nursing & Health Sciences, with hands on training provided by leading clinicians.
Clinic Manager, David Jacobs, says the expanded clinic will run as a standard practice open to the general public while also offering improved treatment services to Flinders domestic and international students, staff and their families.
“Flinders Health2GO is a state-of-the-art clinic that will provide a range of health services to Flinders staff and students and to the broader community.
“Our focus is on delivering the highest standards of advice and care to our clients. We are also in the process of expanding the range of services we offer to help meet some of the service gaps in the local health care market.”
Professor Alison Kitson, Vice-President and Executive Dean, Flinders College of Nursing and Health Sciences, says Flinders Health2GO will strengthen clinical training opportunities by utilising cutting edge technologies in collaboration with its expanded services.
“This is a great initiative for the public and for our students. It’s a ‘one-stop shop’ for people who need to check out their eyes, hearing, exercise and nutrition advice and generally how they can take better care of themselves.
“It’s also a great experience for our students who learn to focus on the client and deliver an integrated, high quality service,” Professor Kitson says.
Flinders Health to Go is located in the Sturt precinct of the University’s Bedford Park campus, adjacent to the Department of Optometry and Vision Science.
