Guy Wilson-Browne, Acting CEO City of Greater Geelong:
Unfortunately COVID-19 gathering restrictions would prevent the City safely pursuing hosting a live site to watch the Grand Final if the Geelong Cats qualify, noting it has actually been a number of years since the City has considered hosting a live site. Instead we have encouraged residents to support local businesses screening the game.
This year we have installed ‘Go Cats’ billboards and flags in the region to celebrate the achievements of the Geelong Cats so far and to show our support.
We know many in our community are passionate supporters of the Cats, and will be cheering on from home or at a local business for a win in the Final this Saturday and in the Grand Final if the Cats qualify. We wish the Cats good luck as they take on the Brisbane Lions this weekend.
We also encourage the community to consider booking in with a local business to watch the game where there is an opportunity to do so in a COVID-Safe way. It’s important everyone adheres to the current restrictions on gatherings and household visitors while watching the Geelong Cats and for any celebrations.
