Mildura Rural City Council is partnering with not-for-profit organisation Carers Victoria to celebrate and thank our local carers as part of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Carers Week.

A free afternoon tea, featuring live music and plenty of good company, will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Monday 16 October at the newly redeveloped Powerhouse Place on Mildura’s iconic riverfront.

Carers from across our region are invited to attend the special event, which will also be an opportunity to create new friendships.

Carers often feel isolated, which can have an impact on their mental wellbeing. Socialising and connecting with others can help combat these feelings.

Councillor for Community Health and Wellbeing Troy Bailey encouraged carers across our region to attend the free event.

“Caring for others is such a vital role in our community,” he said.

“It’s a role that will affect all of us at some point in our lives, whether that’s due to a need to care for a loved one, or because we ourselves may require care.

“This event is the perfect opportunity to say thank you and show our support for our carers.”

Carers Victoria statistics indicate that the number of carers in Victoria is expected to rise over the next three years from 750,000 people to one million.

“Our region is home to a number of these dedicated individuals, many of whom volunteer their time to provide care, support and companionship to those in need,” Cr Bailey said.

“We’re proud to be partnering with Carers Victoria – a true champion for our State’s carers – to provide this free event.”

Registrations for the free afternoon tea are essential for catering purposes and can be made online at
