Cannington Detectives have charged two men in relation to an incident in Cannington last night, Saturday 27 July 2019, in which a vehicle was stolen.
About 10:00pm a security guard was conducting patrols of a road works area on Cecil Avenue. He parked his vehicle and as he exited the vehicle he noticed two men wearing face masks.
It will be alleged one of the men was armed with a knife, and the security guard was threatened by the armed man. The two men stole the security guard’s vehicle and were last seen driving off towards Sevenoaks Street.
The incident was reported to Police and a short time later Traffic Enforcement Group officers sighted the stolen vehicle on Williams Street, Beckenham. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle, however the driver failed to stop and the vehicle was followed through several streets.
The vehicle turned into Chich Place, Cannington, which is a dead-end street. The vehicle was blocked in, and minor crash occurred when the vehicle attempted to pass the police vehicle. The stolen vehicle was unable to pass the police vehicle on the road, and then became stuck on a mound of dirt when the driver attempted to cross a grassed area.
The two occupants fled the scene on foot, however they were both located hiding at separate residences on Mallard Way, Cannington.
An 18-year-old man from Narrogin has been charged with Aggravated Armed Robbery, Fail to Stop, Reckless Driving (to evade police), and No Authority to Drive.
An 18-year-old man from Bateman has been charged with Aggravated Armed Robbery, Breach of Bail (failing to appear in court), and Trespass. The trespass offences relates to him being located hiding in the bathroom of a vacant house.
The 18-year-old Narrogin man was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital as a precaution as he claimed he had hit his head while jumping fences to evade police.
Both men were refused bail and are due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Sunday 28 July 2019.
