Western Downs Regional Council is collaborating with Southern Queensland Country Tourism to deliver a one-of-a-kind workshop, offering local businesses and farmers the chance to explore opportunities within the largest growing tourism industry in Australia.
From farm stays to rural experiences, agritourism is on the rise and this workshop, which will take place on Wednesday 23 August in Chinchilla, will offer insider knowledge on how to get involved and reap the benefits of this emerging sector.
Councillor Kylie Bourne, Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Events and Regional Promotion said this joint initiative between Council and Southern Queensland Country Tourism was a fantastic opportunity for locals wanting to expand their business offerings into the tourism industry.
“The Western Downs is a recognised leader in agribusiness, and this workshop will delve into the various agricultural opportunities available within the tourism sector, and how those interested can enhance their product to strengthen their position as a destination location and bring visitors to their farm, property or business,” said Cr Bourne.
“Council proactively works to advance our region as a tourism destination, and I see this as a fantastic opportunity to take our locals on that journey. After all, it is the people that make it.”
Southern Queensland Country Tourism’s CEO, Peter Homan said they look forward to delivering this workshop in the Western Downs where both agriculture and tourism are both such prominent pillars of a growing economy.
“We are proud to partner with Western Downs Regional Council to bring this unique workshop to the region, where residents can hear first-hand from experienced industry representatives through a series of mentor sessions, panel discussions, and hands-on activities to provide them with information and knowledge to start their journey on their agritourism venture,” said Mr Homan.
This event is free to attend and will take place at Charley’s Creek Campgrounds in Chinchilla on Wednesday 23 August from 9am to 3pm. As morning tea and lunch are provided, bookings are essential.
