Ahpra social media guidelines

Australian Medical Association

Ahpra have provided updated social media guidelines for doctors.

Ahpra have updated their social media guidelines to help doctors navigate their posts on social media.

According to the update, doctors have the right to post on social media and advocate for social causes, including making a political statement advocating peace.

Aphra said calls for leaders to protect health workers and health facilities from attack were unlikely to trigger an investigation along with criticisms of media coverage on wars.

The AMA believes the new guidelines should help triage complaints better.

In an interview with AusDoc this week, AMA Vice President Dr Danielle McMullen said: “doctors want reassurance that making respectful comments on social media is not going to attract a reprimand from the regulator”.

“I think this guidance is helpful in that it is clear that doctors should feel safe and comfortable expressing their personal views in a safe way,” she said.
