Ai Group’s Queensland Branch President Ken Bridges has marked the 150 year milestone of Downer Group’s Maryborough operations with a presentation to Downer’s Executive General Manager, Andrew Spink, at an Ai Group meeting in Brisbane yesterday (10 December). Mr Spink was presented with a plaque of appreciation on behalf of Ai Group members in Queensland and across Australia.
“Ai Group acknowledges the significant and long-standing contribution of the Downer Group to the Queensland economy, as it celebrates 150 years of manufacturing in Maryborough,” Ai Group Queensland Branch Head, Rebecca Andrews, said today.
“An employer of more than 53,000 people, primarily in Australia and New Zealand, Downer has a proud history in Maryborough, building trains, sugar mills and ships for customers across the country, supporting many businesses and communities.
“In Queensland, the future looks bright for the Maryborough factory, with Downer signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Queensland Rail. The new 10-year agreement will see closer collaboration, increased regional investment and better outcomes for Queensland’s rail passengers, further strengthening the facilities reputation as a leader in rail manufacturing,” Ms Andrews said.
